Background and experience
In addition to being the 23rd letter of the modern Greek alphabet, the psi symbol is also used in many disciplines, from hard sciences to religious studies. The letter Psi and symbol is also used to denote the field of psychology, which one can see and hear in the name: ‘psyche’ or (psych), meaning the human soul, mind, or spirit, and ‘ology’, meaning the study of. Also interesting is the depiction of a three-pronged trident in the symbol, which I tend to think of as mind, body, and spirit joined or working harmoniously together. This is the origin of the symbol in healing associates and why it is in our logo today.
I view counseling and patients with an integrated approach. That is to say that true healing and the journey to healing take place when the mind, body, and spirit are integrated and treated holistically during the process. As this journey looks different for everyone, one thing that remains similar is the integrated approach and need for holistic treatment.
Education
I earned a bachelor of science degree in human development from Warner Pacific University in Portland, Oregon, in 2011, where I focused my studies on human development. I completed the counseling program at Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon, and was awarded a Master of Arts degree in 2014. In 2023 I was awarded a PhD in Positive Psychology
Training
In 2014, I completed a practicum and internship in mental health counseling as part of my graduate program to earn my master of arts degree. In 2015, I completed the 40-hour substance use disorder clinical supervisor training with the Breining Institute in Orange County, California. From 2015-2018, I completed extensive doctoral-level supervision and advanced supervision training at Oregon state university as part of my Ph.D. program in counselor education and supervision. I have also been trained in dialectical behavioral therapy, neurofeedback, positive psychology, and multiple treatment curricula and interventions specifically for justice-involved individuals, and numerous clinical supervision models.
Clinical Experience
I began my career working with individuals struggling with substance use disorders in a detoxification and inpatient treatment facility. In 2009, I started working with similar populations in an outpatient treatment setting as part of my bachelor’s program. Later I worked predominantly with the indigenous population at a local tribe, helping those with co-occurring mental health and chemical dependency challenges.
In 2015, I began supervising counselors and case managers for an organization that provides transitional services, housing, and counseling to men and women with conviction histories recently released from an Oregon jail and prison.
